Who we are
NovaRec Studio is an Android app published by CipherRoot Software. This policy explains what the app does with your data, and it applies to the app in full, including screen recording, live streaming and video conversion.
What the app does
NovaRec Studio captures the screen of your device and saves it as a video file, or streams it live to a service you choose. It can also convert, trim and crop video files you select, and export them as animated GIFs. Every one of these operations runs locally on your device.
What we collect
CipherRoot Software collects nothing. We run no servers and have no way to receive your data. The app contains no account system and no analytics SDK. We do not collect, transmit or sell any personal information.
The free version does contain one third-party component: the Google AdMob advertising SDK. Google receives data through it, as described in the next section. We never see that data ourselves.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free version of NovaRec Studio shows ads supplied by Google AdMob. To select, deliver and measure those ads, the AdMob SDK may collect and share the following with Google:
- Your advertising ID (AAID) — a resettable identifier your device provides for advertising.
- Device and app information — device model, operating system version, app version, language and screen size.
- Approximate location — a coarse region derived from your IP address. The app never requests GPS or precise location permission.
- Ad interaction data — which ads were shown, viewed or tapped, used for frequency capping, measurement and fraud prevention.
Your recordings, screen content, microphone audio, camera video and stream keys are never sent to Google, to AdMob, or to anyone else. The advertising SDK has no access to any of them.
Where ads appear is deliberately limited: an ad is never shown while you are recording or streaming, and ads are never placed over the recording controls or the facecam overlay.
You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time from your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads), which also lets you opt out of ad personalisation. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the app shows a consent dialog on first launch and your choice can be changed later from the app.
Google's handling of this data is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and in the Google Privacy Policy.
Your recordings, screen content, audio and camera
Screen captures, microphone audio and front-camera video are processed entirely on your device and written straight to your device storage — videos to Movies/NovaRec, animated GIFs to Pictures/NovaRec. This content is never uploaded to us and is never accessible to us.
A screen recording can capture anything that happens to be on your screen, so we treat recordings as personal and sensitive data and leave them wholly under your control.
Live streaming to Twitch, YouTube and other RTMP services
When you start a live stream, your audio and video travel from your device directly to the streaming service you selected, using the server address and stream key you entered. This traffic never passes through us.
Your stream key is stored only in this app's private storage on your device. It is never transmitted anywhere except to the streaming service you chose, and it is removed when you uninstall the app.
Once your stream reaches that service, it is governed by that service's own privacy policy and terms. NovaRec Studio is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Twitch or YouTube.
Permissions, and why each one is needed
- Screen capture. To record or stream your screen. Android asks you to confirm this every time a capture starts.
- Microphone. Only when you turn on mic audio, to include your voice in the recording or stream.
- Camera. Only when you turn on facecam, to overlay your camera on the recording or stream.
- Display over other apps. To show the floating recording controls and the facecam overlay while you are using other apps.
- Notifications. To show the ongoing recording or streaming notification, which Android requires and which lets you stop at any moment.
- Photos and videos. To list your existing recordings and to let you pick a video to convert.
- Advertising ID. Declared by the AdMob SDK so ads can be served and measured in the free version.
- Internet. Used to send your live stream to the service you chose, and to load ads from Google AdMob. The app makes no other network requests.
Keeping and deleting your data
Because nothing reaches us, there is nothing for us to keep and nothing for us to delete on our side.
You can delete any recording or GIF whenever you like, using your gallery or a file manager. Uninstalling the app removes its settings, including any saved stream key; files you already saved to your gallery stay on your device until you delete them yourself.
Data held by Google in connection with advertising is controlled by Google. You can reset or delete your advertising ID from your device settings, and you can manage your Google ad settings at myadcenter.google.com.
Children
This app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. Ads served in the app are configured as not directed to children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version appears on this page and inside the app, carrying a new effective date. This version was updated to disclose the addition of Google AdMob to the free version of the app.
